Association of Swiss Cantonal Banks
Just under 100 years ago the Cantonal Banks jointly established the Association of Swiss Cantonal Banks (ASCB). In order for it to fulfil its functions properly, the ASCB set up an administrative office in Basel in 1971.
The ASCB is responsible for representing the joint interests of the Association's members and supports measures which strengthen the position of the Cantonal Banks in Switzerland. It also promotes cooperation between the individual members.
The governing bodies of the ASCB
- The General Meeting: The Ordinary General Meeting takes place once a year after the end of the financial year. Its functions include accepting the Directors' Report and Annual Accounts, electing the President and Vice-President, the Board of Directors and two auditors from among the members. It also decides on the adoption of and any amendments to the Articles of Association, the admission of members, the setting of contributions, the discharge of the executive bodies and, if ever appropriate, any resolution to dissolve the Association.
- The Board of Directors: The Board of Directors has 24 members and consists of the Chief Executive Officers of the Cantonal Banks. Peter Siegenthaler is President and Chairman of the Board of Directors. The Vice-Chairman is Martin Scholl.
- The Executive Committee: The Executive Committee comprises a maximum of nine members from the Board of Directors and not more than one representative per member bank. The President of the Executive Committee is Peter Siegenthaler, who is also the Chairman. Martin Scholl is the Vice-President.
- The administrative office: The Association's administrative office coordinates the various activities of the Association, prepares the business of the decision-making bodies and assists in implementing the resolutions adopted. It drafts position papers on current economic and banking policy issues, keeps Association members informed of relevant matters in a comprehensive and timely fashion and maintains contacts with Federal authorities and institutions. Marketing functions and publicity work are an increasingly important part of its work. In close cooperation with the individual member banks, the administrative office represents the Cantonal Banks Group in matters regarding the media and the general public.
